How To Make Empowered Decisions

We make decisions every day of our lives. Some decisions are big and life-changing such as quitting your job or getting married, while some are quite inconsequential such as deciding between coffee or orange juice for breakfast.

A friend of mine once told me that her first decision in the morning is to smile as soon as she wakes up.  She suggested that I try this as well because as silly as it seems, it actually creates a huge, positive impact on the rest of her day.

I guess each of us has our own way of making empowered decisions. While some are confident about the decisions they make, others are unsure if they made the right choice.

How To Decide With Confidence

As Stephen Richards puts it, we are essentially who we create ourselves to be, and all that occurs in our life is the result of our own making. So, if we focus on what we want to achieve, it aligns the energy all around us to help us do just that.

Every time we make a decision, it is important to weigh all the possibilities and use both our logic and intuition.

Below are some questions that I find quite helpful especially when I’m about to make a big decision that will massively affect my life:

#1. What are the pros and cons?

#2. Will it be beneficial to all?

#3. Is it fair to all concerned?

#4. Will it bring about goodwill and better friendships?

This isn’t to say that we spend too much time over-evaluating every single detail before deciding on something. It’s really a case-to-case basis, and don’t hem and haw too much over small decisions.

Don’t worry if the outcome of your decision isn’t what you’re hoping for, you can learn from experience and use it to make better decisions in the future.

Whenever I’m faced with a tough decision, I try my best to look for a path that feels more empowering. What I mean by that is I decide based on my values and principles.  So if I have to make a choice, it should be aligned with what I believe in, not what others might think of me.

Navigating Through Murky Waters

However, there will be times when things aren’t so clear which makes it harder to make the right call. We might experience strong emotions like guilt, shame, uncertainty, and anxiety.

This lack of clarity can make us feel less empowered because our judgment is clouded. In cases like these, you need to step back and try to look at the big picture. Ask yourself, “What significance does this situation have in my life?” “What is the best decision that rings true with my values?”

When we have a clear idea of what we want to do with our lives, who we want to be, and what’s truly important to us, then we can make an empowered decision.

This way, we can let go of the fears and limitations that are holding us back from achieving what we want in life.

I’ve always believed that there’s no such thing as a wrong decision because every decision we make forms a part of our story. There may be times where we take a detour or we’re faced with huge challenges, but it’s the Universe’s way of leading us to where we’re meant to be.

When was the last time you’re faced with a difficult decision? How did you feel after you made your choice? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this, please share them in the comments below.
